Don R. Duckworth
The CWD Group
Don Duckworth is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The CWD Group, a management consulting and private equity investment firm serving a wide array of clients, from Fortune 50 global giants to small cap startups. The firm has a strong vertical industry focus and its partners have either served as a CEO, a COO, or an equivalent senior position in their respective industry segments. This collective experience results in the delivery of “results driven advice” to the firm’s clients, based upon actual experience rather than theory, in the areas of strategy, performance improvement, organizational transformation, human capital processes, and corporate governance. When this intellectual capital is combined with the firm’s financial capital, it brings to the client an unequalled portfolio of resources to insure future success.
Prior to this position, Don was in the executive search industry and served as the CEO and co-managing partner of two “global 20” search firms, Horton International and Johnson, Smith & Knisely/Accord. Both firms operated in over twenty five countries with more than forty offices, in such diverse locations as Shanghai, Hanoi, Kiev, Mumbai, Stockholm, Budapest, Prague, Buenos Aires, and Santiago. Don pioneered the introduction of global account management programs in the executive search industry and also introduced synergistic services in the areas of executive coaching, executive assessment, and e-cruiting.
Before entering the executive search industry in 1993, Don served in corporate leadership roles in the oil and gas industry with Standard Oil (Ohio) and BP. Some of the positions he held were Vice President, Human Resources; Vice President, Corporate Security and Risk Management; Vice President, Finance and Administration; Senior Vice President, Change; and Chief of Staff. He also served on a number of the Company’s executive and board committees, including the management, environment, contributions, and compensation committees.
Don is a graduate of the University of Georgia; the Darden Graduate School of Business, University of Virginia; and the US Army Command and General Staff College.
He has served on a number of Boards of Directors and Advisory Boards, including Link Staffing Services, ROXCO, Crystal Insights, MARS, and Cambrian Stone. His professional memberships include Business Executives for National Security (BENS); Association of Former Intelligence Officers; Atlanta Chamber of Commerce; Technology Association of Georgia; the British American Business Group; and the executive committee of the Atlanta Council of Boy Scouts of America.
On a personal note, he is an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He has participated in the Grand National Waterfowl Hunt, the Kansas Governor’s Turkey Hunt, the One Shot Antelope Hunt; and the One Box Pheasant Hunt. Don also regularly fishes a number of marlin tournaments, ranging from the Bahamas to Cabo San Lucas. He is an active member of all major hunting, fishing, and shooting organizations and has been an active volunteer in the Atlanta Charity Clays Shoot, the Georgia SCI chapter, and Ducks Unlimited. He is currently the co-Chairman of the Boy Scouts Sporting Clays Championship. In 2004, Don was inducted as a regular member of Boone and Crockett, one of the nations leading game conservation organizations, founded by Theodore Roosevelt in 1887. His personal memberships include the Golf Club of Georgia, Cat Cay Yacht Club, Yale Club of New York, 191 Club, City Club of Buckhead, the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Society of the Cincinnati […]
